I study the stopover ecology and conservation of migratory land birds in North America. Combining data-intensive radar remote sensing and eBird participatory science, my research focuses on identifying stopover hotspots and key habitats for migratory land birds during the en route period, thus completing the full annual cycle conservation of migratory species.
At the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, I use data from weather radar to reconstruct the long-term population trends of migratory landbirds during stopover in the contiguous United States. Based on that, I will quantify the impacts of past land-use changes and assess the effectiveness of different conservation measures.
In collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NCRS), I also help develop conservation recommendations to protect and restore important stopover habitats for migratory landbirds in North America.
