Quantitative Ecology • Ecological Modeling • Population Ecology • Conservation

My research is focused on understanding avian population trends and dynamics in response to global change—how are species faring across space and time, and what is driving their population trajectories at scales relevant to conservation and management?

At the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, I build statistical modeling frameworks to estimate avian population trajectories and relate these trajectories to environmental conditions. For many species, estimating fine spatial and temporal scale population trends from single data sources is difficult, especially when species data are collected over short time periods and small spatial scales, or at low resolutions.

My work integrates diverse data sources and types, including eBird data, to improve population trend estimates. Public science outreach also features heavily in my past and present work, from engaging volunteers in research, to collaborative science journalism and media outreach.
