Data Form Instructions

Please use one Data Form per 20 points (per Delorme page or Canadian topo map). You will need to copy the form if you plan on doing more than two Delorme Atlas pages or topo maps.

Bird Data
This section of the data form should be used to record the data at each point count. Please make sure you are recording in the correct quadrant.

Site Data
This section of the data form should be used to record information about the location, elevation, and habitat at each point.

  • As stated on the data form, please write in all habitat codes that apply. If the habitat at your point is not listed at the bottom of the page, then write 'other' in the box and describe in the comments section.

SHF (shrubby field) patches of dense, woody stems under 20 feet (6 meters) covering much of the census site

AF (abandoned farm) an early stage of succession, over 50% herbaceous cover

    SM (abandoned strip mine)

CC (clear cut) an area of cut forest in which the stumps and/or growth of saplings from stumps is visible

    SUF (successional forest)

AP (primarily aspen) dominated by aspen trees

UT (utility right of way) a gas pipeline or electrical transmission line

PB (pine barren) sandy areas with scattered pine trees

    CP (conifer planting)

AS (alder swamp) a swamp with an abundance of alder along some portion of the shoreline

    TB (tamarack bog)

BW (beaver wetland) wetlands created or enlarged by beaver activity

    WE (other wetland)

  • The extent of area is an estimate of the amount of habitat that could potentially support breeding Golden-winged Warblers at your point.
  • Please state whether or not there is surface water (lake, pond, river, swamp, etc.) present in the area surrounding your point.
  • There is a Comments Section on the back of the data form if you need more room or have any other information about golden-wings, blue-wings, or hybrids at your points.
