Common Yellowthroat by Brad Imhoff/Macaulay Library

On May 11, the intrepid birders on Team Sapsucker will grab their binoculars, lace up their boots, and set out for Big Day 2024 in the Great Lakes region to celebrate the miracle of migration. They'll be on a search to find as many birds as they possibly can in just 24 hours, all in the name of bird conservation.

Why? Because birds need help now more than ever. Using radar to detect birds in flight, the Lab’s scientists discovered that 3.5 billion birds migrate into the U.S. each spring. It’s a phenomenal number. But migration decreased by 14% over a recent 10-year-period, a real emergency. We need to act now.

Please, make your Big Day donation—doubled today—to fuel the Lab’s critical science and conservation programs that protect birds across their epic journeys.

In appreciation for your support, we'd like to offer you these gifts
